"Ordain a Lady" Music Video

This is actually done by a group that is in favor of female ordinations.  I think the video actually makes the Church's case though.  Let me know what you think.

  1. I will pray for all these people in the making of this video. My Prayer for them is to find peace in God's will for them and find strength, acceptance, understanding and truth in the fact that "the guy in the Hat" they so disrespectfully refer too in this shocking video will remain Loving and faithful in God's will. And that the ordination of women Priests is NOT the will of God. It is the 'will' of these women. God Bless You

  2. That was awful and it gave me the creeps. The priest is married to the Church, its bride. Women can't be priests as it would be a homosexual relationship, two brides.

    1. Byzantine Catholic Priests are able to married. So your point is not settling with me.
Possibly we are using a video done in poor taste to make a very important decision. I personally find it odd to go to a church with a woman as the Pastor. Is this because the woman does not have good things to say? No. Does she deliver the word of God. Yes. It is just different for me. But I was raised in the Byzantine church, as an adult I moved away and there was no Byzantine church. I stopped going to church because it was odd to me now. I found it tacky that there was a woman cantor and a guitar at church! HA. A wafer for communion? I had always had bread and wine. No kneeling to the floor as you enter the church? Years later I had moved my parents to where I am now living. Three years later my VERY devout Catholic father passed. He had been ill the whole time and had not been to church since he moved. He said his prayers daily. His love of God was not in question. But on his death bed I had to call the priest at the church I had only attended a few times and had found it odd. Much to my surprise a young priest, he looked as though he could be my child approached me at the hospital. I must have looked shocked because he laughed. The fact that he did not say one negative word to me about not coming to church etc, was humbling to me. It made me want to go to church again. My very own baptized children have left the catholic church for other christian churches because of these closed minded views. My middle daughter is a Senior at UVA, she heads up groups of 500 plus in Christian prayer. I have seen her love of God bring tears to the eyes of young and old, Catholics, Protestants and many more walks of life.
All I am saying is, do not judge the righteousness of a woman wanting to be part of the priesthood by the actions of these women, and as ridiculous the video is or seems to be to us. I promise you to these VERY young educated women this is real. How many of our children will leave the Catholic church? I know that it is not uncommon at our church, our congregation is aging, the child are not staying. This is the reality I am seeing and it pains me that I had to beg my children to go to Christmas mass with me and they would not go to to communion. Because they felt they were not allowed, they had been baptized again in the churches of their choice. I must say, when I go to their churches I am welcomed for communion. Just throwing some thoughts out there. Even from one Catholic Church to another myself as a traditional catholic had to get used to things I felt were odd.

  4. They can't sing, can't dance, and can't confect the Eucharist. So they are pretty much pointless.

  5. I completely disagree with this video, but I must make the point that the doctrine of the male priesthood is one that is very hard to accept. I struggled with it for years, but only after reading a lot about it, praying and keeping my mind open was I able to make peace with the idea.

  6. I thought that was a joke and kept waiting for the punchline.

All I can say is, "AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHH!"

  7. I did a quick fisk of some of the lyrics over at the Cleansing Fire blog: http://cleansingfiredor.com/2013/01/marketing-heresy-to-the-young/

It really does demonstrate the emptiness of their arguments. It's hard to single out one absurdity from the pile, but briefly, the invoking of St. Terese wanting to be a priest is offensively and provably mendacious; and when it goes, "Don't listen to St. Paul" we can easily ask why don't they ignore the Gospel writers as well about the Incarnation as well? The arbitrariness is strong with these ones.

  8. This Video screams of lack of education. For a woman to believe she is called to be an ordained priest means she is not ready to live by Truth but by what she "believes" something should be. For Truth states that a priest HAS to be male. The priest is "Persona Christi". He is the "Bridegroom". Bridegrooms are to be Male. The church is "Female". They have to be opposite sex to produce GODLY Fruit. In addition, the priest has got to be an "Unblemished MALE Lamb" not female for the sacrifice of the Mass. This video is an embarrassment to these women who made it, for it strongly shows their ignorance. I highly recommend for those who "think" women should be ordained to study, joined with prayer, then study some more and seek to understand the Doctrine of male priests as to what GOD has already set up. Read "The Lambs Supper" by Dr. Scott Hahn. Listen to Pope John Paul's Feminine Genius. Wow! Check out Holy Scripture and put aside your "feministic" view to allow Truth to penetrate. Be open. Boy, people sure are starving to have an identity. If they truly would sit with our Lord and allow Him to infuse them with Him who is Truth the church would be stronger and more effective for God's greater glory. And isn't that what every human being is created for? To know Him, then fall in love with Him and out of that love, seek to serve Him not ourselves. Not waste time and energy wanting something that isn't for us to be or have. I encourage women who are "gifted" for ministry to lead as such. There are many roles for women leaders in the church just not as a priest. This needs to be researched and then accepted. Lord Have Mercy on us, for the sake of YOUR Sorrowful passion. Please know that I once thought similar. For I am a 47 yr. old woman and used to be a strong feminist. Through much prayerful Transformation God has allowed me to understand this Truth, Men and women are so confused as to their purpose and roles in life our society is following true to "We are all just stupid sheep". We continue to go our own way. My prayers will continue to be for ALL to receive the same grace I have been blessed to receive.

  9. These folks don't see the connection between that kind of thinking and the emptying out of churches. If this is the kind of religion and liturgy that people want, they can find much better stuff in the secular world.
People are looking for the "real" stuff and this pap will simply vanish.

  10. Did she actually say "don't listen to Saint Paul"? I don't even know what to say about this!

  11. I literally felt nauseated as I watched half (couldn't bear it any longer) of this. My 5 year old (boy) and 7 year old (girl) were disgusted, saying it's bad and they don't want women to be priests.

This is just one side-effect of women denying our femininity. So sad.

St. Therese and St. Paul, pray for us!

  12. I guess to be called by Christ to be His bride is not good enough for these silly women. I reconverted later in life and could think of nothing, nothing other than wanting to become a contemplative nun. Because of my age and health conditions I was denied. I wanted to be His and only His. I realize that that is what I wanted and not what He wanted for me. If they truly feel called by the Lord they need to get out of His way and follow Him. And to follow Him means to follow His Church.

  13. That is absolutely outrageous. They shoud be humbly obedient to Holy Mother Church, not following their own ridiculous whim. Jesus had 12 Apostles that were MALE. Even that is easy for me, a young person, to understand! Jesus didn't want women to be priests. That's just the way it is. They think they know better than Our Lord Himself?! If Jesus was a man and the Priest represents Him, than he has to be a man! Alter Christus! Persona Christi! What part of that don't people understand?! Simple enough, people. All these women need to do is use logic here and not act like everyone has to be equal. Anyway, just my two cents. By the way, Thank you, Father. I love your blog. Keep up the good work of being such a holy and great Priest. :) God bless and Happy New Year!

  14. I couldn't get halfway through this unholy mess! I agree--these girls make a wonderful point as to why THEY, in particular, should NEVER be ordained (as if women should even be considered in the first place, which, of course, is absurd)! Confused, misguided, poorly catechized, no manners or class, no sense of modesty or shame....I could go on but I won't.

  15. The young boy actually has a shirt on that states: "Mommy for Pope". How out of touch can these people be? Daddy is never going to be Pope either little man. It's called celebacy. I realize there are a few excpetions to this, but I can't imagine the father of children ever becoming the Pope. At least not in my Catholic Church.

  17. Fr. John, I would be curious to hear a more detailed explanation as to why you believe that this video makes the Church's case as to why women should not be ordained as priests. Thank you and God Bless.

    1. The behavior of those who seek to push this agenda speaks for itself.

    2. The video certainly speaks as to why the individuals involved in making and producing this video should not undertake a priestly mission. However, I fail to see how the behavior of a few individuals, regardless of their sex, constitutes adequate proof as to why half of the population is categorically unfit to be ordained. That is why I would appreciate a more thorough analysis from you on the matter.

    3. The video proves how crazy these particular ladies are. I'm not saying that this video proves that women are unfit for orders, I'm saying that a person watching the video could say
      a) they make good points in this video
      or
      b) Anyone who thinks this video is a good idea must be crazy

I think most rational people would say (b), and so the actions of these few ladies in who put this video together undermines the cause of women's ordinations

    4. Father, you're just using this video to laugh at people. This to me is unchristian. It is clear that the women in this video probably should not be ordained, or maybe that's just my perspective. Pherabi makes a good argument. And Yes, your comment that this video does not prove why women should not be ordained. But if that is not your reasoning, than why put in on your website. Unless you consider laughing at people to be what Jesus would do.

    5. This video proves to me you don't need to know how to dance to make a music video! The only theology contained in it is that if you get a group to jump up and down to make their point, they will be heard. I would have more impressed if this were a group of monkeys jumping around trying to get more bananas at the local zoo!

  18. Uh. I'm slack jawed. I read everyone else's posts, but I have to say my reaction was a little different. 1: I couldn't stop laughing. and 2: I felt embarrassed for them when I was able to take a breath. Look, there's such a lack of humility among women like this, and it's pointless to argue with them. They represent the relativism and progressiveness that's rampant in our culture today and antithetical to Catholicism as well as obedience, and since I already mentioned humility I won't beat that point to death. It's such an ungrateful stance to take! It's offensive but Fr John is right. May I be blunt? To trivialize our Faith and it's Traditions the way this video does just makes them look like idiots. I don't know how this post will appear, so let me point out that I'm female. I teach CCD, and one of the things I explain to the younger kids is that the rules their parents give them keep them safe, in the same way the rules of God and the Church keep Her children safe-even when they seem to ruin our fun; sounds simple but even otherwise obedient-to-the-Bishops-and-Magesterium Catholics forget that sometimes. Rather than protest the 'rules', what if we encourage women and girls to seek wisdom about them? I laughed because this video is, well silly. But I will pray for their wisdom and obedience, and I would encourage everyone else to engage the same way. I saw the FB page at the end of the video, many here may want to "tell", but a good way for us to interact is through QUESTIONS- If Jesus didn't give Mary the keys to the kingdom, what do you think that might say about Sacred Tradition?' is a good for example. :) Sorry for the long post, and Thx Fr for putting this video up.

  19. There is no respect for the differences between men and women anymore. We feminize our men and masculinze our women and its almost as if there aren't even two different sexes in society. This kind of thinking is doing more damage to marriage and families than gay marriage. I think I'll have to write my own blog, or this would be a very long comment.

I'll say a prayer, this makes me sad.

  20. Anonymous said- in part -that "My very own baptized children have left the catholic church for other christian churches because of these closed minded views."
With proper catechesis, people wouldn't see the positions of the Church as close minded views. Most leave-ultimately- Church because of poor catechesis, and, as I mentioned above, that grows into protests about the precepts and doctrines of the Church rather than a search for the wisdom in them.

More and more, people are confusing their desires with their rights; they think that what they want is what they deserve in the name of fairness and equality. It's their 'right'!

I have one son; I wish he was 5 of himself. Well, maybe not quintuplets, but I love kids and it's unfair I don't have a bigger family. Isn't it my right to more fully participate in motherhood? If I could get the definition of parenthood, or children or even family changed,-if we could update that- maybe those families who have a passel of kids could just give me one of theirs. As I'm waiting for that to happen, I could explore in vitro or surrogacy? Because after all, I feel left out.

Look, I understand that many things the Church does or doesn't approve might seem like a terrible cross to bear. What I don't understand is why the idea of taking it up and embracing it is so unbearable to so many Catholics.
