AWESOME Explanation of Mass Music

Here is a short video that is well done and very helpful for understanding what the Church requires of its music and worship.

Check it out, it's only 9 minutes!

  1. Dear Father John;
    Thank you for posting this video - what great resources for parish musicians. And a well present explanation of what good liturgy is and what it is not.

  2. Then David came dancing before the LORD with abandon, girt with a linen ephod. David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts of joy and sound of horn. - Samuel 2: 14-16

    1. Yeah, this is every fan of liturgical dance's favorite passage...but what people who quote this fail to realize is that had David done this in the temple during Jewish liturgical worship (which the Mass is an extension of) then David would have been killed by the temple guards. David would have NEVER DREAMED of dancing, clapping, and tambouringing DURING temple worship...how much less would he have fathomed people doing so during the Mass?

    2. Yep, the old dancing David thing. Not far behind usually is the Ethiopian Ge'ez dancing which is no help to the let's-make-liturgy-as-unserious-as-possible crowd because the kind of liturgical dancing done by crones skipping about the nave like some kind of decrepit wood-fairy would be unrecognizable if not appalling to Ethiopians.
