  1. Wow, that councilman who asked the question was a real liberal jerk. Amazing how biased and nasty he was towards the Catholic Church, but if he had the same attitude towards any other ethnic or religious group he would be skewered in the public eye.

  2. Someone on another blog posted something funny - by that one councilman's logic we could never listen to another politician again given the scandals through the years!

  4. I wonder what the other councilman's point was in asking if he was there to represent the Bishop in some formal manner? What's the point or difference? The Church teaching is the same regardless of from a Priest who is ordained and authorized to teach it or the Bishop or Archbishop himself. Didn't quite understand where the other council member was going with that one.

  5. Thank you Fr. Hollowell for posting this! The courage of that priest is very inspiring.

It may be a bit of a generalization, but many people outside the Church look at it as if it was a big corporation with the Pope as CEO and bishops as veeps. So they tend to think that things like the teachings against homosexual acts are merely current company policy as opposed to a permanent and infallible teaching (which it is through the ordinary magisterium).

  7. That councilman had a very good point I think. The Catholic Church is on one of the biggest crusades I have ever seen in my life when it comes to gay marriage. Never in my life have I seen a religious organization dump so much $$$ into defending true marriage. In the mean time, they neglect poverty stricken countries such as the starving children in Africa, the starving kids in Haiti(who eat dirt cakes cause they have no food) and also have no medication for their sick kids Other places are badly in need of assistance as well. Take Japan for example. An earthquake caused a lot of devastation. Where is the Catholic Church at when it comes to helping these people? Where is the Catholic Church at when it comes to sending $$$ to Haiti and Africa for poor needy children so they can be fed and not starve??!?!?!? I hope all the millions of dollars that were spent to stop gay marriage was well spent by the Catholic Church. That could have been better spent I think on starving and sick kids! How would the priests and bishops in the church like to starve and be very sick with no medications?? HUH?? Nevermind the sick needy kids and others in poor countries. Who wants to marry who is more important to church leaders. Just think if all that money which was spent on gay marriage was actually sent to Haiti or Africa or Japan or wherever; I bet you would have literally saved hundreds possibly thousands of lives. Isn't the Catholic Church all about being pro-life? I see where their priorities lie... Pathetic institution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Bill, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. You assume you know exactly what the Church does or does not do. The Church has always been present in impoverished areas from just about the beginning of any form of colonization in those areas. I'm certain the Church does more than any Middle Eastern country does for anyone in times of disaster. Instead of coming on here and ranting with your own baseless opinions, try getting some facts before you make yourself look like an anti Catholic hate-mongering idiot. Obviously if you think it is more important to let gays marry and force our children to learn about transgender and gay people in history in Kindergarten instead of hearing about "God" in society, then there are parades you can go to instead of this blog. Believe it or not, there are still people who believe upholding morals, values, and the institution of marriage are important.

  9. And those seeking to redefine marriage - how much money do they put into Haiti and Africa and poverty?

The Catholic Church is the single greatest source of relief for the poor in the world.

Actually, the Catholic response to same-sex marriage is justly proportional to the secular onslaught to normalize it. In other words, if there is ever a Thieves' Pride Parade, I assure you there will be more Catholic commentary on the wrongness of stealing.

  11. As a homosexual man, I can honestly say that I do agree with Fr. Rodriguez. He speaks the truth. However, I just don't understand why the Catholic Church is so harsh on homosexual persons though. It seems as though I am pretty much a condemned person really. Trying to fight being homosexual and keeping myself from bonding to another is very difficult. I can list several ways that I could go to hell connected with my being a homosexual:
    1) If I deliberately go online to look over personals in the gay category--and send an e-mail to one of them telling them they are "hot" or "good looking" -- I would go to hell

    2) If I should go on a date with another person of the same sex -- I would go to hell. That's because dating is something for a man and woman to discern the possibility of marriage.

    3) If I should go to the theater with an individual of the same sex and hold hands during the movie -- I would go to hell.

    4) If I should end up kissing an individual of the same sex -- I would go to hell.

    5) If I would go over to the house of an individual of the same sex and end up flirting with each other(NO SEXUAL STUFF)-- I would go to hell.

    6) If I should bind my life to that of another of the same sex(AGAIN, NO SEXUAL STUFF EVER HAPPENS) -- I would go to hell.

    7) If I should marry another of the same sex -- I would descend into hell at a faster rate than any of the above numbered that are mentioned.

In this world, the threat of hell is real. Even more so for the Catholic Homosexual. I wish the church would find some sort of solution to this problem. Perhaps we should all pray to God and ask Him to heal all those who are homosexual and turn them heterosexual like I would love to be. It would be nice to not be so lonely and depressed.

  12. Kevin,

Sin and temptation are everywhere today, just as they have been everywhere since the beginning - but we ought not to be burdened by a fear of those temptations - we believe that by overcoming the temptations, they become less tempting over time. I don't mean to belittle your struggle; on the contrary I want to let you know that all people of good will stand with you in solidarity because we all struggle together - and when we realize we are not alone in our struggle, I believe it makes it somehow easier

  13. Also, the joy of confession is real and palpable - if one falls we have only to utilize the great sacrament of penance to pull ourselves out of a tail spin (well, it's God who pulls us out, but you get the point!)

  14. @Stone: Sorry to say it, but I agree with Bill on that one. Your response was filled with supposed facts with no sources to back your claims. And, from your tone, you sound like a hateful person yourself!
